Peking University, Beijing, Nov.30th, 2006:
Candidates for 2007 Peking University Graduate Program was up to 20,
634, according to the statistics on 2007 National Master Unified
Application on the website of Ministry of Education. Thus the number of
candidates for PKU graduate program has been exceeding 20, 000 for three
years back to back.
PKU has carried out reformation in graduate program since this year. To
ensure the quality of newcomers, PKU Graduate School adjusted the
program – increase in the number of recommended candidates and a little
decrease in the total number, under the condition of a steady-going
scale. And application-checking system has applied to the graduate
program for international students. Thereinafter is the statistic
analysis on the application of the two years:
First, increase in the recommended students. Since the recommended
students recruited by PKU have enjoyed a good reputation among their
peers, the proportion of this category has been enhanced this year. With
1, 398 recommended students in 2007, the number outstripped that in 2006
by 143. And the students from the colleges/universities with graduate
schools accounted for 94%, which outstripped that of 2006 by 1%.
Second, proportion of application and matriculation. Though the number
of candidates on paper decreased a little, the number of students in
this year’s graduate program and candidates in reality increased, due to
the increase in recommended students, the international students’
absence from this application system, and the decrease in J.M. Project
(by 150 in quota). Among 2, 0634 candidates, 3047 will be admitted in
the end this year (6.77:1), while in 2005, 3339 were admitted out of 2,
2498 (6.74:1).
Third, qualification of the candidates. The candidates applying for PKU
have always had excellent qualities in the past years, and this year is
not an exception. Among the 2007 candidates, 29, 938 were fresh
graduates (96.63%), 592 candidates were those who possess equal ability
(2.87%), and 104 masters (0.5%); while among the candidates last year,
there were 21737 fresh graduates (96.62%), 658 candidates with equal
ability (2.92%), and 103 masters (0.46%).
Fourth, the origin of the candidates. Compared with last year, the
proportion of the fresh-graduate candidates and non-fresh-graduate
candidates did not changed much (2007: fresh – 8975, 43.5%; non-fresh –
11659, 56.5%. 2006: fresh – 9856, 43.8%; non-fresh – 12642, 56.2%), only
that the proportion of the fresh-graduate candidates who were from the
colleges/universities with graduate schools has increased by 11.2%
(2007: 4921, 54.8%; 2006: 4297, 43.6%).
Fifth, application for professional degrees. 1492 candidates applied for
J.M. this year. The quota was 200, with 61 admitted by recommendation,
and 139 to take the national examination, and the proportion was about
11:1, the same with last year. 1566 candidates applied for MBA, while
the quota was 320, with admission proportion 5:1, a little lower than
last year’s (5.5:1). |
